Hey-
So this is my first blog ever. Thought this would be a cool way to keep my military career documented. And keep everyone at home up to speed with what I've been doing.
I just got to Airborne School yesterday, did a little bit of paperwork and got my room settled. Nothing too big. It wasn't at all like Infantry OSUT. The Sergeant Airborne's don't yell at you to hurry up or try and make your life miserable. Also, there are officer's, sergeants, and women here. There are also students here from other services including the Marines, Navy, Air Force, and Great Britain and other countries. Makes for a weird dynamic.
Today we did a lot more bull shit. We woke up about 0600 and got ready for formation at 0730. Ate Breakfast Chow and turned in any contraband that we had. We're apparently not able to have knives or gerbers or leathermans or anything like that. After that we had to label all of our crap which took about 10 minutes. They gave us about 2 hours to do it, which meant I was on my computer for about an hour and a half. Then we went down to Lunch Chow. After Lunch, we had some officers arrive and they had to label their crap, so we sat around for about 2 hours again. I napped and sat on my computer again. But then our day got really boring. We had to stand through briefings for about 4 hours and listen to a bunch of NCO's (non-commissioned officers) and officers talk about the do's and dont's of airborne school. After it was all over at about 1800, we got released for the weekend.
The weekends here aren't as lax as I had expected. We have to be in at 2300 every night. We can't consume alcohol at all no matter what age or rank we are. So, it sort of eliminates some of the plans a lot of us had to go out and stay in a hotel and drink for a weekend. But.... it's probably for the better. Except that my roommates won't be taking off to a hotel and I'm stuck with them for the weekends too... :(
Anyway, since we haven't really done anything, there's not a whole lot to fill anyone in on. However, starting Monday we actually do shit, so I'll get you all up to speed whenever I can throughout Airborne School.
Also, for any of you who haven't heard, I'm headed to Fort Bragg after Airborne School. I think I'm headed to the 82nd Airborne Division which is nicknamed the All-Americans. They're a pretty decorated unit and I'm really excited. Its in North Carolina where I wanted to be originally. I was thinking of picking up a ranger contract, but I think I might wait and see what the 82nd holds in store before I decide to push my body too hard. I have to live with this body for the rest of my life. Currently, the 82nd is in Haiti, assisting in the Earthquake rebuilding process, and I am not sure when they come back, but I can be pretty sure that they will be in Afghanistan in the not so distant future. The 82nd Airborne is also the only unit, in any army, in the entire world, that has the ability to be anywhere in the world in 18 hours. I'm excited to get there towards the end of February or early March.
Anyways, bed time. Hope all is well with everyone. I'll post a new blog when there is important things to fill everyone in on.

Chris, this is AWESOME! Thanks for taking the time to do this. I think a whole lot of people will be interested in what's going on with you - not just because you're YOU but because it's way different from what any of US is doing. Love you, sunshine!
